 The 2022 FIFA World Cup Schedule Is Here!




The FIFA World Cup, one of the most popular sporting events in the world, takes place every four years. This year’s edition will take place in Russia, starting on June 14 and ending on July 15. The tournament features 32 teams and has been contested every time since its inception in 1930 except in 1942 and 1946 due to World War II. The next time it will take place, though, will be 2022, when Qatar will host the world’s biggest soccer competition. Introduction

The 20th edition of the World Cup will take place in Qatar, with the opening game to be played on 18 November 2022. The tournament will take place over 32 days and end on 18 December 2022. There will be 64 matches played in 12 stadiums across 11 cities and towns. With the number of participating teams set at 48, this is by far the largest World Cup ever. Eighteen teams will qualify for a first time: Angola, Benin, Burkina Faso, Cape Verde Islands, Colombia (co-hosts), Central African Republic (co-hosts), Comoros Islands, Democratic Republic of Congo (co-hosts), Djibouti (co-hosts), Equatorial Guinea (co-hosts), Gabon (co-hosts), Guinea Bissau, Liberia, Mauritania and Somalia.


Opening Match

Eighteen teams will compete for the right to be crowned world cup champions in Russia. The opening match will take place on June 14th. It will feature Russia and Saudi Arabia, and it's hosted by Moscow's Luzhniki Stadium. The game time is 8am EST.


Group Stage

1. The group stage will begin on Friday, June 14th and is scheduled to conclude on Tuesday, June 18th. A total of 32 teams will be drawn into 8 groups (4 teams per group). Each team will play three games in the group stage with the top two finishers in each group advancing to the knockout stage.


Round of 16

This year's World Cup is going to be one of the most exciting in recent memory. The games are set to start on June 14, and will be played until July 15. If you're not sure how the groups are set up, here's a quick breakdown: there are eight groups, with four teams in each group.


Quarter-Finals

In the Quarter-Finals, there are four countries that will battle for a spot in the Semi-Finals. The first day will feature two games, with two more on the second day. On Thursday, October 18th at 11:00am EST, Portugal takes on Uruguay and later in the day at 3:00pm EST Belgium goes against Brazil. On Friday October 19th at 11:00am EST France battles against Argentina, followed by Uruguay and Portugal at 3:00pm EST. Finally, on Sunday October 21st at 11:00am EST, Belgium takes on France while Brazil faces Argentina.



Third Place Playoff

France will take on Peru in the third place playoff. The game will be held at Estadio do Maracana in Rio de Janeiro on Saturday, July 14th at 8:00 p.m. EST and 11:00 p.m. BST/IST (Friday, July 13th at 7:00 a.m.). It's sure to be a nail-biter as France aim to finish third for the second time in their history since 1986 and Peru try for their first World Cup medal ever.


Final

It's been a long wait, but the schedule for the next World Cup is finally here. The tournament kicks off June 14th and wraps up on July 15th with a possible final match on July 17th. This will be the 21st World Cup, meaning that some of these teams have never won it. Can you guess which country has the most World Cups? It's Brazil, with five.
